Nautilus…

I was completely inspired to photograph stairwells after seeing Tony Sweet’s lighthouse photo from San Diego, and Jane Fikar’s lighthouse which was Tuesday’s Photo of the Day at BetterPhoto.com. Many thanks for the inspiration! I made my way up to the lighthouse in Ponce Inlet, Florida to photograph the spiral structure from the ground floor. I had the idea if I could photograph it just right, it could resemble a nautilus or fossil shell. This is easier said than done with the lens pointing straight up, and I was grateful to have my right angle viewfinder with me. Without it, I would have to limbo underneath my camera and tripod to compose images. In Photoshop, I used several layers of textures and blend modes to create a natural shell color and pattern throughout the image. Make great pictures, and I hope to see you in class in June! ~ Deb

Well you succeeded, Deb. What a great image. I love the geometry and texture. Sounds like it was a good outing. Take care.
