Stroll in the National Museum of Rome…

The National Museum is a wonderful place to visit in Rome. There is much to explore! I liked the woman admiring the artifacts, and it seemed the perfect opportunity to create a black and white interpretation. Black and white imagery has a timeless appeal, and classic traditional look. Converting to B&W can create a more dramatic and expressive image, without the connotations of color. This allows the viewer to take in the wonderful texture, pattern, shape, light, shadow and tonality throughout the image.

Nik Silver Efex Pro is my favorite method of B&W conversion. I use it for my all my infrared photography, and it works perfectly for color images as well. For black and white printing, please check out Digital Silver Imaging. I saw their stunning prints at PDN PhotoPlus Expo in New York. They do beautiful work, and they also convert cameras to infrared! You can use this Deb-IR for infrared camera conversion, and DSANDIDGE for everything Nik. Have fun shooting! ~ Deb

I love this! I was there last year, but only had my G10 with me-big mistake! Great black and white photo! Thanks for the tip on the Digital Silver Imaging site.

Hi Lynne, thank you! This was taken with a compact camera, the Nikon P100. Little cameras can make a big impact! I appreciate your comments!

Your using a compact camera makes me feel a little better about taking mine with me as they are so easy to pack. Do you mind telling me if you shot this image as a Raw file? It doesn’t look like it’s shot at a high ISO and I feel sure you probably didn’t have a tripod.

Hi Lynne – I shot with both my primary camera and the compact camera. The compact camera does not record in raw format. Low ISO. I used a Joby gorilla pod for both cameras, but handheld the shot above by bracing the camera. The Joby is the large version and it does beautifully with my Nikon D3s and lenses. I would recommend that one for even the compact cameras as the smaller ones aren’t sturdy enough. Hope that helps!

Hi Deb-thanks, that helps immensely and I appreciate your taking the time to answer my questions. I have one of the gorilla pods, but not sure it’s for the heavier cameras. Looking forward to seeing more of your fabulous photos.
