South Beach…
Greeting from South Beach! There is nothing like getting up well before sunrise to greet the day. For this shot of the 10th Street lifeguard tower in Miami Beach, I arrived about an hour before sunrise. This is one of my favorites of the iconic art deco towers, awesome night and day! For the techies, this was shot with a Nikon Z 7 and NIKKOR Z 14-30mm S lens, f/5.6, ISO 64 for four and a half minutes to softly blur the clouds across the sky. During this time, although I’m shooting in darkness while the tower is illuminated by the city lights behind me.
At night the towers are also beautiful. Shooting for three minutes at night stretched clouds across the sky while the city lights illuminated the lifeguard tower. This was photographed with my Nikon Z 7 and NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S lens, I loved trying it out with various light conditions. This time of day is quiet, less crowded and the perfect time to set up for a few shots.
The beach holds a sense of wonder, the magic of sunrise, waves greeting the shore, and the never-ending sound of the ocean. This was photographed with my newest lens, the NIKKOR Z 14-30mm S lens, which is perfect for an ultra-wide shot to capture the entire sky and shore. For seascapes where I want to convey a sense of motion, I will often shoot about 1/20th of a second for the waves. I kept the new lens on my Nikon Z 7 the entire weekend! I like to cover a lot of ground on foot when I’m traveling, I appreciate the versatility, sharpness and light weight of the lens, plus it works with my existing filter set and accepts 82mm filters. No trip to South Beach is complete without photographing Ocean Drive, more photos soon!
Hi Deborah,
Love your images especially the South Beech ones.
I have had issues focusing at night in the dark or with limited light with the image often coming out less than crisp. What’s your secret?
Thanks
