Photographing clouds…

Melbourne beach pier long exposure

Dreaming of clouds today… This pier was photographed using a Nikon D4, Nikkor 16-35mm lens, 30 seconds at f/16 using a Singh-Ray Mor-Slo 10 stop neutral density filter to create a softness and sense of motion with the clouds. Nik Analog Efex Pro, Zoom and Rotate Blur, how cool! This adds a soft focus blur with the fishing pier. I like the blur filter in post processing as it accentuates the dreamlike quality and mood of the image. When I’m taking pictures, I think about peace, solitude, and how magical the earth is. The big Florida clouds always amaze me, ever changing, very dramatic, sometimes quite colorful.

Another take on the same pier a little later. My plans for twilight were dashed by the inbound storm, but I was very thankful to capture the clouds as they rolled across the river. The photos were part of a time-lapse that I had set up to capture the evolving clouds. I hope to post a few short time-lapse sequences soon!
