Analog Efex Pro, Vintage Effects Using Camera Kit

Long exposure photo of NYC post processed with Nik Collection by Google Analog Efex Pro.

I was inspired by several favorite photographers to revisit a long exposure shot taken in NYC.  For example, Dan Hughes discussed on Google+ about how going back and reprocessing imagery with a different technique can give an image new life as it alters the mood, feeling and expression of a photo. I loved that idea and worked with it here using Silver Efex Pro, and next, choosing Analog Efex Pro from the Nik Collection by Google. I started with Camera Kit using the tools Zoom & Rotate Blur, Light Leaks, Dirt &  Scratches, and Vignette tools. Camera Kit allows you to start from scratch and choose custom settings for your image which you can save and apply to future images, creating your own presets. The Light Leak option worked great for this image. In this case it creates an irregular black & white/sepia toning reminiscent of the work of another favorite photographer, Sean Duggan. Irregular toning can be a complex technique, but easily achieved in Analog Efex Pro. There are quite a few textures within Dust & Scratches, Organic works beautifully creating unique aged patterns throughout the image. Reducing the strength of a texture creates a more subtle look. But truly my favorite is Zoom & Rotate Blur, this tool creates a selective focus look with endless variables by changing the center point,  zoom and rotate strength. When all of the custom effects are combined together, magic happens… a digital image now has the funky charm and character of vintage film and a toy camera, what fun!
